If Laurent answered, Damen didn't hear it over the sudden rush of surprise as Dutch yanked herself from his grip. She moved too quickly, pain blossoming up his leg before she landed a far more blinding blow to his groin. Doubled forward, she continued her assault, too quick for Damen to fight it off before the final knock of her head against his sent him toppling back.

It felt impossible, embarrassing, even that she'd caught him so unawares. Luckily, he did not fall completely, teeth grit against the pain as he caught his weight on one arm and tried to push back onto his feet, lurching forward.

Only the shatter of glass stopped him and his eyes dropped wide as Dutch buckled suddenly at the knees. The glint of a blade caught Damen's attention and he reached out to catch her forearm in a tight grip before she could plunge it into his gut. Before him, her body jerked once more and Damen stared, stunned, as a trickle of blood slid down the side of her face.
